The ECRI Future Inflation Gauge (FIG) fell by 1.3% to a new 26-year low
of 95 (1992 = 100) during November after falling by 3.2% during the
previous month. The index, which is designed to anticipate cyclical
swings in inflation, has contracted in 19 of the previous 21 months.
Corroborating evidence of contemporaneous releases indicates that the risk of
real sector weakness continues to outweigh inflationary pressures. As
such, the current FIG report does not contain any information that would
alter one’s expectation of Fed policy.
