A related thought just has occurred to me. I bet some companies are being very forward with their exposure to the Enron debacle, perhaps even exaggerating their potential losses. This would be a good way to write off losses on the books in the current quarter. Here they have a well publicized and understandable reason that no one will blame them for. The attention now is on Enron. Besides covering unusual and substantial costs that can show up as losses, this also can be used by them to substantially increase the book profits they will report in the next quarter.

Just a thought of mine. Frequently my thinking leans toward considering the diabolical. LOL And what comes as a surprise is that many times I find myself not far from the truth when I think this way. LOL
