Let me see if I have this right:

1) Carly sees the only way for long term growth and stability is to combine with CPQ. Lots to be made in killing redundant operations. Lots to be gained in strengths.

2) She goes to the board and they all said yes.

3) She goes to the faimly money and they say yes.

4) She announces.

5) Wall street doesn't like it because there is not an immediate short term bonanza to be made.

6) The families, who have a big stake in the company through inheritance but have never in their life done a lick of work at the company, suddenly decide to change their mind even though nothing has changed since they felt the opposite way. They have absolutely no idea at all where the company should go in the future. Basically they want to run the company but not run the company but run the company but.... well....it all depends on how they happen to feel today.

7) Wall street continues to support the family against Carly. Now the only existing direction is for HWP to scale down to where it makes money - printers and cartrages.

8) So Carly has to say "I am sure the people that disagree with me and have more power than me must have better plans for the company so I will step aside and let them lead the way."
