Why waste your time criticizing the most democratic government on earth?
I don't. Whatever gave you that idea? Being suspicious of individuals within our government is not a criticism; it is a form of oversight.
Your time would be better spent fighting hunger, poverty & pestilence than bad-mouthing a government you don't deserve.
Do my professional years as a Welfare Assistance Worker, Medical Aide, Psychiatric Aide, Homeless Shelter Case Manager, and Energy Assistance Supervisor qualify? My voluntary chairmanship of a regional Homeless Action Coalition, my appointment to a city/county Low Income Housing Task Force, my freelance writing on poverty topics, my stint as a union steward and other volunteer efforts might.
It's just as silly to attack an unknown quantity on a message board as it is for me to defend against such an attack. After all, I could be BSing about my background.
But I'm not.
And I refuse to settle for 'the best'. I think 'better' is possible, and the first key to that is genuine campaign finance reform, so that greed doesn't cancel out the voices of the less well off.
You nailed it on the head though, saying I don't deserve this government. Even though there's a hair's breadth of difference 'tween the two, I deserve the government that got elected by the American people, not by the 5 robed guys who champion 'judicial restraint' while snickering up their sleeves. |
