George W. Bush can be trusted with the war powers act to hold military tribunals within the spirit of the American constitution.

Unless he does something to warrant this level of fear, it's simply an invented state of mind.

In my case, it's neither a partisan issue nor is fear involved. I simply am not convinced of the necessity for some of the key elements proposed, like a 2/3 vote to execute.

The arguments for the necessity are mostly (not all ) thin. I am concerned that we are not just the world's last superpower but a champion of democratic institutions. So my argument is not built upon what OBL wants or his rights, but on the fact that especially when we are critiqued for our arrogance and bias, (and it appears that many in the world buy the critique), it reflects no wisdom to use a system reflective of arrogance and bias.

As a parent, I know my kids emulate my actions, not my words. By flexing our attempt at evenhanded justice to permit a less evenhanded attempt, we send only the message that we'll bend justice to suit our interests while blasting other countries when they do the same. And for what positive purpose?

Fixing what ain't broken is always bad policy. On the other hand, if our justice system is broken, why not fix it, rather than putting the fix in?
