God certainly appeared in human form in Jesus. But to see God in human form one need only look into a mirror or into the face of any other human. To see God in tree form look at any tree. To see God in cloud form, look at any cloud.

But of course that's not the point you were making.

However in many ways faith consists not so much in believing that Jesus (or any other sacred figure) was beloved of God but in supposing that we are not. Since I "know" I am sinful and unworthy, when I behave in a sinful and unworthy manner that's easy to "understand" and by extension to excuse. The fact is, freedom can be a terrifying prospect to many people. Man implores God: "What will become of me?". When God replies: "I don't know. What will become of you?" we are mute.

"Who Am I?" is the only question, and our life lived is our only answer.
