Mars, What is wrong from any Christian viewpoint is that the post was liberal "New Age" doctrine. If it feels good, then its ok. If I'm not mistaken, Jefferson had also denied the Deity of Christ.
Santiago , you are calling Thomas Jefferson's statement New Age doctrine ? Well , I suppose he was a little ahead of his time .<g>
There was much that was "New Age" about the foundation of America . And much changed and progress was made in human society when the truths that are "self-evident" were pursued and studied diligently in this land , alongside with an over-abundance of the pursuit of accummulation of wealth ...which was often associated with prosperity, but often didn't lead to spiritual enhancement of the general conditions of the newer populations arriving on these shores...
That is one of the drawbacks of the rapid expansion and settlement of a vast New incredibly rich untouched and unspoiled "New Land" .
You seem to have a problem with anything "New Age" , and with Jefferson not readily taken with the idea of the Diety of Jesus ? Yet Jefferson offered the highest praise he could bestow upon those teachings. I would not want you to feel so impelled to be the one to judge Thomas...I think Jesus from where he was sitting then was quiet pleased with the life that Jefferson lived , and I do think there is definitely a place in heaven for him that was waiting .
Jesus , I think would forgive certain errant thoughts in the case that Jesus is God , and sitting on a throne somewhere high above . There were few men of that age that cared more for the meditations into God's creation or desired to fathom more of those truths make men whole and vitally alive creatures and not slaves.
But there was much slavery , alas in those days ....
You seem to have a problem with anything secular , and that is fine Santiago . Have you ever considered the priesthood or becoming a monastic ?
But setting yourself up to be the "judge" of the error of their ways , by following there own set of beliefs is far to big a world for you to enter , for you know nothing but "Christianity".
And that is so very splintered isn't it ?
Truth of human existence is a vast subject , when considering the variety of cultures and religious traditions that have survived into the present . For you to say that Jesus is Lord , is fine . But for you to say that others are in error transgresses the boundries of enlightenment.
The truth and the teachings of Jesus, as Jefferson so aptly pointed out , is within the comprehension of a child .
So why would you think that other cultures and peoples did not produce saints and saviors and messiahs and holy teachers of their own ...that could see what a child can see?
You were ever so blind as to think they did not . Even Jesus said there would be those that would come after him that would do greater deeds than he had done .
Jesus was a man, a rabbai and teacher that was part of the "Dawn" of man's conscience , and the beginning of the hope to an end to all the terrible Wars that had plagued mankind till then ...and the fear of each other .
Jesus had a vision ..Jefferson had one too.
