Constantine, do you have any reason to assume that Intel is going to abandon socket-478 any time soon? Might socket-423 only be the result of growing pains between getting used to a new micro-architecture? IMO, the socket-370 to socket-478 conversion is the minimum to be expected when going between two completely different micro-architectures. AMD similarly switched between super socket 7 and slot A (another normal generational socket leap). I'd expect the Hammer socket to similarly be a departure from socket A. Such generational leaps are progress, IMO.
