Also, if clay is not properly wedged (like kneeding dought) it will have air bubbles that will pop during the bisque firing. It always pissed me off in college when I would lose a piece because some goof ceramic 1 student's thick air bubble filled piece would pop and take several pieces next to it. It didn't take long for
me to take charge of loading the kilns and making sure if I had to put someone's peices next to mine, they
were pieces I could tell would be okay.


Okay. Remember how I said that I didn't think I could get interested in clay again unless I had my own kiln. Well THIS is the reason that I became disinterested... Because I was firing in community kilns and when the kiln was opened up after firing, you would find that somebody's pot blew apart and took out several pieces around it. Really frustrating as I would spend a lot of time wedging my clay and watching out from potential air bubble problems.

Workshop went really well today. And yah! Maybe you should have been there!!
