At what point does "it" become aware?
Somewhere between 1 and 2 years of age. Most children aren't able to form a memory of consciesness from before age 4 or so. It isn't an easy development to exactly identify, which is why I propose using unambiguous events that are well before the awareness state as a legal guideline.
