How Much Longer Must Jonathan Pollard Suffer?

Jerusalem----December 3......Jonathan Pollard represents many things to many people - but one element remains clear - Pollard represented all that was wrong with Israeli American relations over a decade ago.

Pollard should not be persecuted further for the past mistakes made by Washington and Jerusalem. Israel has and remains America's closet ally. Israeli blood drips almost daily to preserve American oil interests in the Middle-East and remains Democracy's front line against extremist religious Islamic totalitarianism .

Pollard could have been any Jew who was committed to both Israel and the United States.
He loved both nations. And served both nations - not as an adversary, but as an innocent pawn.
He was used by both governments and now appears to be totally thrown away.
In his role as a U.S. Naval Intelligence analyst he passed valuable security information to Israel - not for money or ego but rather out of a desperate sense for Israel's very physical survival.
We ask why did Pollard have to pass this information to Jerusalem - why wasn't the White House, the CIA and the State Department doing so?

Pollard clearly broke American law. There is no argument here and should have been punished, but Pollard's internment - sitting in US Federal prisons for 16 years - is a sentence far more severe than the true enemies of the United States who were feeding information to the Soviet Union!
Israel never had missiles pointed at Washington ;>

What we ask today - is Pollard still a threat to US National security?
Has he not been punished enough for the past mistakes of Jerusalem and Washington?
If Pollard was an agent of Israel and a citizen - what is the Israeli government doing to gain his immediate release.

Our last question - Pollard's mother just died, does going to his mother's funeral constitute a breach to American security? How many other federal prisoners are allowed to attend their mother's funeral?

Please read the below and decide what constitutes American justice and humanity and what constitutes political symbolism and fear.
If the CIA is afraid of Pollard's release today from prison - then the United States has much, very much to be worried about!

Jonathan Pollard Is Sadly Bereaved By Passing Of His Mother
Justice4JP Release - December 3, 2001

Justice for Jonathan Pollard is saddened to announce the passing of Jonathan Pollard's mother Molley, age 84, in South Bend Indiana, on Saturday, December 2, 2001.

Jonathan received the news from the Imam (the Moslem cleric) at the prison on Saturday. He was permitted a phone call to his family. He is not permitted to attend the funeral. In a letter to the Jerusalem- based Committee to Bring Jonathan Pollard Home, Esther Pollard wrote:

Dear Friends:

The sad news is true. Jonathan's mother passed away on Shabbat. Jonathan will not be permitted to attend the funeral. He will not receive any special considerations during the shiva period and will still be expected to continue his job cleaning toilets as usual. I have been in communication with Arutz-7 and they will be carrying the news of this sad event so that all of our friends in Israel will be aware.

I have also been in touch with Jonathan's rabbi, HaRav Mordecai Eliyahu shlita, to get special instructions from him on how Jonathan must conduct himself under these extraordinary circumstances. For example, Jonathan does not own the shirt that he wears and he therefore cannot even tear kryia. The Rav responded with his usual kindness and explicit instructions. Jonathan was very grateful.

Perhaps the most important thing to be aware of is that we have it on good authority from high-level sources in Washington that because of the dire situation in Israel coupled with the tragedy of Jonathan's mother's death, Bush would have made the gesture to release Jonathan if Prime Minister
Sharon had only asked. Sharon did not ask. Jonathan's name was not on his agenda with Bush. Again, as I indicated in my recent interview with Hillel Fendel of Arutz-7, if Sharon is not going to do right by one Israeli agent, it is futile to expect that he will do right by an entire nation. It is
going to be up to the nation to hold him to account. Today is Jonathan's mother's funeral. He could have been there. Prime Minister Sharon saw to it that he was not.

Sadly yours,
Esther

INA - Something is very wrong.
It's time that both Washington and Jerusalem sobered up to their past flaws and released a man who is rotting away his life in prison because of his love and service for both democratic nations.
Pollard was responsible for a misdeamnor - the United States and Israel are guilty of a felony!
