(13:40) IDF nabs 30 suspects, bomb equipment in raid (or Arafat real intentions - if not prevented)

IDF forces arrested some 30 Palestinians in a raid on the village of Anabta near Tulkarm early this morning.

Eight of the Palestinians are wanted for security offences.

Explosive belts used in suicide bombings, explosives and a bomb-making workshop were discovered in the combined special forces operation.

Four Palestinian Authority policemen opened fire on the soldiers during the sweep.

They shot at the troops out of two vehicles.

Soldiers returned fire, killing them.

Two Palestinians were wounded.

No soldiers were hurt.

OC Judea and Samaria Brig.-Gen. Gershon Yitzhak said the Palestinian Authority was not making a serious effort to thwart terrorists.

He said the PA's arrests of suspects were "for show," and only brought in "small fish," adding that the detainees were being held under "five-star conditions."

"The arrests are intended to satisfy the Americans and Europeans until things blow over.

"We get the impression the PA has not made a strategic decison to fight terror and return to negotiations," Gershon said in a briefing.
