I think your sceanario is very reasonable. I believe there is almost a desparate desire for "good news" and anything of that ilk will be rewarded enormously. However, even if a GDP head fake does occur, I think the extent of the drop forming the second down leg of the "W" will be pretty short, as other signs of real recovery may be filtering up by late January or early February. These may offset too much disappointment but could also serve to bring more caution in the markets to the later (and genuine) upside recovery.
