Wellll everyone in the restaurant became aware a of communication problem immediately. Though we left the right after that and I really don't know if the reminder of the rules had much of an impact. My feeling is the guy had quite a few smokes after we left, though it may have given him cause to question his addiction. Unfortunately at the time carrying around a loaded 45 was not an uncommon means of 'reintegrating' into civilian life. It led to some very sad stories; as well as the occasional humorous ones like the one I am able to relate.

JW is unlikely to see a 'free' life again for some time. But harsh rules and regulations have been his life since he was 15. I suspect that even life in a prison will seem quite 'relaxed' to him. Have you ever read stories of the Hitler Jugand and their Storm Trooper regiments? I suspect JW has faced some similar education methods. His concept of hardship will be hard to understand, or achieve in 'civilized' detention.
