I've lived in a number of places with hardwood. I think it's superior to any other kind of floor due to durability, as well as attractiveness. I do have Oriental rugs in the two rooms in this house with hardwood, which makes the room quieter.

The real question in my mind whether it can go in the kitchen and foyer, places with a lot of traffic and water and food spills(kitchen). My guess is that people put tile and linoleum in places like that for good reasons.

But maybe the new finishes are good enough to stand up to it.

Oh, well, I guess I need to go to the library and look through back issues of Consumer Reports or This Old House or something like that.
