Peter, thanks for the Ace's Hardware Workstation Guide link… I see the dual-1.7GHz Xeon server roughly achieves parity with the dual-1.2GHz AthlonMP. The dual-1800+ is just simply in a league of its own. And, yes, that's with SSE2 optimizations across the board. My best WAG would be that these multithreaded apps just put too much pressure on the P4 front-end. If Jackson Technology / HyperThreading doubles much of the front end, as has been speculated, the results for the P4 could jump quite significantly, especially for SSE2-optimized apps. -fyo
