I think you paint the value of gold too black and white.The value of any thing is not constant.It changes with time.Just like a cuddly teddy bear.
Sometimes you dont need it,you feel safe and secure and sometimes you are just really glad its there.
Remember, Keynes was out of favore until last year.Now he is the flavor of the month.
