There are a few more clues too. The first one being, Joey and Ellen were never "friends". Allen and Ellen were. Second, Joey, as we all recall couldn't spell squat, either his spelling has improved or it's not him. And thirdly, when challenged Allen never failed to fall back to his days in the service, as if that had some relevance.
