When I grew up in Missouri the State Troopers and State Game Wardens both gave gun safety, gun danger, and other presentations at high school assemblies. I don't recall any of my friends who did not have their own guns. We also learned safety and marksmanship thru YMCA and Boy Scouts. We hunted, bought our own ammunition, plunked empty bottles and cans anytime we felt the urge. Perhaps Ashcroft grew up in similar circumstances and simply is not paranoid about the ownership and use of guns.
