My comments follow the arrows:
-----------------------------------------------------------

"2) detained (for immigration violations) means you are very much on the hook to the Gov"

Why do you feel illegal immigrants should not be detained?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>I didn't say that, so I won't bother to argue it. Not my position.

Do other countries allow immigrants to live there illegally?

"A) How many detained/held?"
Ascroft has answered that VERY SPECIFICALLY. What is your point?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> What was the answer?

"B) How many charged, and with what?
He has answered the how many VERY SPECIFICALLY. Again, there is no constitutional "civil right" that the gov't MUST release the names and the crimes. It is up to the person detained. We are protecting THEIR PRIVACY.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wrong (as I pointed out before). Arrests are public information in the US. No 'privacy' right.

If you were being held you could announce what you are being held for if you wanted. You seem to be saying the government MUST MAKE THIS PUBLIC. Are you sure that is the best way to protect civil rights? I think it is kind of cool that it is UP TO THE PERSON DETAINED. You obviously think differently, but I would love to hear your justification for this MANDATORY PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT of your crime and your circumstances.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Go down to your local courthouse and look the arrests up. Read them everyday in your local newspaper.
