I'm confused about the Walker case because John Walker joined the Taliban before 9/11. We were not at war (declared or otherwise) with the Taliban at the time. So it could not have been treachery before 9/11. Did it become treachery after 9/11? or should the response be limited to revoking his citizenship and treating him like any other Taliban POW?

Are there any precedent cases, such as American citizens fighting for the Nazis in WWII?
