Hi Buddy, Here's some more "feedback"

"My comments are my own. I don't know about anyone else's comments"

That is why I want to know specifically how you think the constitution has been trashed. I have injected what others have said to make my point, but don't expect you to answer for them.

"Only problem I had with what he said was the part in his written statement where he implied that anyone who criticized his views was treasonously 'aiding the enemy'"

This is a GREAT example of passing on mis-statements and half truths. You take your words almost exactly from what the NY Times said on Friday. Problem is it is editorialized to reflect the author's view (which coincides with yours). I am glad you mentioned this, because it helps make my point.

NY Time wording "John Ashcroft on Thursday defended the administration's array of anti-terrorism proposals and charged that some of the programs critics are aiding terrorists by providing "ammunition to America's enemies""

It goes on to say that he did it because he was "emboldened by public opinion surveys" (as opposed to that he actually believes what he says).

Here is what Ascroft said "To those who scare peace loving people with phantoms of lost liberty, my message is this: Your tactics only aid terrorists."

The keys here are that the NY Times (and you) feel that "critics" and "those who scare peace-loving people" are one and the same. I would say that constructive criticism does not scare people and that destructive criticism does. And that the destructive critics are who Ashcroft was referring to. The people who incorrectly stated the tribunals were unconstitutional or that not giving a list of detainees to the ACLU is unconstituttional or that Ashcroft is acting to undermine the constitution or to undermine civil liberties.

See the difference?
