Jim it was a cooperative effort to defeat Hitler, dividing the credits is just as dumb as claiming that US alone liberated Europe. One thing is clear though is that by the end of the war both Russia and US tried to get as much territory under their control as they could. For example, Stalin wasted on the order of one million soldiers in killed and wounded in order to beat US to Berlin. re: Or Russia under German rule... Germany was stupid enough to show it's real intention to common population in Russia. A lot of people did not like Soviet regime and Stalin and were looking at Germany as a liberating force. Instead of using that dislike toward reds Germany showed it's cruelty toward the Jews and even slavic population which united Russia. After uniting Russia Germany did not stand a chance. USSR lost 22mil people during wwii and without help from US they might have lost twice that number but Germany would not win Regards -Albert
