British Tory leader: Hamas and Islamic Jihad are terrorists

The leader of the Conservative party in England, Ian Duncan Smith, attacked the British media Monday for its use of distorted terminology in regard to Palestinian terror organizations.

In a speech given to the annual Friends of Israel business convention, Duncan Smith said that the events of recent days in the Middle East reflect that there is a long way ahead in the quest to uproot terror. Duncan Smith said that since September 11 the world has leaned that there is not and cannot be a way to appease terrorists. He went on to say that those that carry out attacks in Israel have no desire to reach a peace agreement. He said that they want to destroy Israel and what he claims the country stands for: liberal values, pride in a nation state, and economic achievements.

Duncan Smith also said that the time had come for the British media, including the BBC, stop describing the Hamas and Islamic Jihad with ambiguous terms such as radical or militant. Duncan Smith said that both Hamas and Islamic Jihad should be referred to as terrorist organizations, because by using ambiguous terms the organizations are granted legitimacy. The Tory leader noted that BBC coverage is absurd and that even moderate Palestinians refer to suicide bombers as terrorists
