Ahhh yes... so does this imply bad yields at Intel, or at least ones that are worse than AMD's? Can someone do the math here (someone other than Dan)?

one thing about yields which is an absolute fact is that the bigger the chip lower the yield. This says nothing about AMD vs. Intel, but for example, Piii vs. P4 yields everything else being equal.

The simplest way to illustrate this is suppose you have only 1 tiny defect on the entire wafer. Suppose (these are not correct numbers, just an example) you have 200 Piiis on the wafer, and only 100 P4s on the wafer (P4 is 2x the size of Piii). The result would be that you would get 99 P4s and 199 Piiis. The yield of P4 would be 99%, yield of P4 would be 99.5%.
