The first generation Creative PC-DVD (non-CUBE verison) uses an IDE interface for the Matsushita drive and a full-length PCI decoder board:

The Maximum DVD kit (I'm not sure which model) uses an IDE interface for the Toshiba drive and a PCI decoder board:

I don't think that the data rate coming off the DVD drives justifies a SCSI interface at this time.
