I would have to say that I agree with X on this one. No doubt that means she will be changing her position shortly. <g>
Pacifism can only work in a world that is absent evil. Unless one takes an eternal perspective, and doesn't mind dying that is. Malevolent people will simply take advantage of the pacifists to commit more evil. Of course it's easy to be a pacifist in a country with a military, the size of the U.S.A.'s. Like little kids who sneer at others from behind the protection of their big brothers, they seem to sing a different tune when you find them alone. I suspect that the rich spoiled kids from the school you mentioned are just that, rich, spoiled kids, who have never had to deal with the real world. No doubt their mommies have never ever told them, that they could not have, or do, any thing they wanted. Send them to some third world country where the people are killed for speaking out as they did and they will come back like Bruce Cockburn who wrote "If I had a rocket launcher, some son of ____ would die" Then they will be screaming for Justice, not peace.
It will take the direct intervention of God Himself to put an end to evil, but there's the rub. Evil R us. If God is going to be just, then He can't judge some and not others, so we need to be careful what we ask for, we might just get it. That's what makes Grace, soooo amazing!
