CPQ was doing fine till HWP made the buyout offer.

I look for balance sheet strength, free cash flow, book value, cash on hand, debt and a lack of foundation ownership (less interference).

HWP reminds me a lot of the Ford family. No matter what Ford does they are unhappy. The foundation owns 10% of Ford but 90% of the voting stock.

Going forward from here I would rather own CPQ than HWP. But here opinions vary. If you look at the price action on CPQ today...its all over the board....if you look at the price action of HWP its mostly down ward....HWP (foundation)may win this battle (void the merger) but lose the war for share price appreciation. Appreciation of share price is what its all about for those that have lost track of the basics.
