Ashley, I can't see any reason to apologize.

Did you mean this? cnn.com

< CIA officer Micheal Spann was buried Monday afternoon at Arlington National Cemetery. Spann, a 32-year-old former Marine captain, was killed in a revolt by Taliban prisoners at Mazar-e Sharif last month.

"It is not enough simply to dream of a better, safer world," CIA Director George Tenet said at the graveside service. "He understood that it has to be built with passion and dedication, in the face of obstacles and in the face of evil."

Spann was questioning Taliban prisoners, including a 20-year-old American Muslim convert now in U.S. military custody, when the uprising began. A Marine guard brought Spann's casket to the grave site at Arlington National Cemetery.

"Those who took him from us will be neither deeply mourned nor long remembered," Tenet said. "But Mike Spann will before forever part of the treasured legacy of free peoples everywhere, as we each owe him an immense, unpayable debt of honor and gratitude."

I consider it very right to celebrate Marconi's achievements, which led to Irwin Jacobs' and QUALCOMM's achievements on the same day as praising Mike Spann who had the courage to confront repression and destruction and defeat them. The efforts of people like Mike Spann enable the efforts of people like Irwin Jacobs and Marconi.

Without freedom, private property, rule of law, enforcement of contracts and protection of people against attack, there can't be any CDMA. People like Mike Spann fight back the jungle so others can be creative.

But what commemoration did you mean? 11 September? I don't really want to commemorate that. That's for the families of those who died to privately remember their loved ones. Mike Spann is different in that he was acting on behalf of the USA and the world at large [I certainly appreciate his efforts] and recognition of him is right. Mike Spann Memorial Day makes sense to me. WTC Memorial Day does not. I prefer to remember the achievements of life rather than the horrendous events created by malevolent people, [though I'm sure 911 will stick in my mind].

Peter Blake's funeral herald.co.nz is less widely noticed but the way he died was much the same - far from home fighting against criminals in defence of civilisation. He did not accept being attacked and fought back. Many think he should have just accepted being attacked and robbed. Yes, he would probably have lived, but fighting back against criminals is always admirable. herald.co.nz

PS: Peter's burial is in England because he married an English woman and has two children and England has been their home.
