Service Providers to Distribute Alcatel OmniPCX Office
Converged Voice/Data Solutions for Small and Medium
Enterprises

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 11, 2001--Alcatel (NYSE: ALA - news) announced today that telecommunications operators
Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom, KPN, Telekom Danmark and Telefonica will distribute the Alcatel OmniPCX Office
e-communications appliance which enables the operators to offer powerful converged voice, data and Internet solutions to smaller
organizations, previously available only for large businesses.

Three months after launching the communication server on the European market, five major operators decided to offer this
innovative solution to small and medium enterprise (SME) customers, strengthening Alcatel's technological and commercial lead in
this area.

The Alcatel OmniPCX Office is the first preconfigured all-in-one-box e-communications appliance that includes voice telephony,
shared and secure Internet access, an email server, and LAN infrastructure and services, and it is the first true e-communications
system available on the market. The Alcatel OmniPCX Office improves the service providers' offer with value-added managed
services. Through target marketing, each operator will offer the solution for everything from conventional voice communications
and standard business management services to complete packaged solutions that leverage the full benefits of voice-data
convergence. Such managed services will enable SMEs to quickly and easily boost productivity by deploying features initially
designed for large corporate users.

Olivier Coste, vice president, service providers market for Alcatel's enterprise activities, said, ``The Alcatel OmniPCX Office enables
telecom operators to offer their SME customers a new range of remotely managed services. Thus, service providers can create
simpler, more flexible relationships because customers enjoy the full benefits of converged voice and data services. For the
operators, it is the opportunity to develop new value added services and enhance customer loyalty.''
