Seoul, Dec. 12 (Bloomberg) -- Micron Technology Inc. may make an offer for rival Hynix Semiconductor Inc. as early as next week, a spokesman for Hynix's creditors said, a transaction that may create the largest computer memory-chip maker.
When debt-laden Hynix, the third-largest memory-chip maker, announced merger talks with Micron last Monday, Hynix's Chief Executive Officer Park Chong Sup said the two companies will decide whether the negotiations had the potential for success by the end of this month.
``We predict Micron will come back with an offer if we stick to the schedule,'' said Lee Kwong Seok, a spokesman for Hynix's restructuring committee.
Micron, the second-largest memory chipmaker, has been in talks with Hynix since last week. A Micron team led by its Chief Financial Officer, Wilbur Stover, left Korea yesterday, the spokesman for Hynix's creditors said. |
