Yes, I have indeed done much better from my longs than my shorts. I hold very many more longs than shorts and I hold them for longer. While I'm prepared to sit on a long position for years, I tend to be more easily frightened out of my shorts. Finally, the last few years have been good for biotech - unless you could time the market you mostly could not do well as a short.

So in practice perhaps you are right - it's just in theory that you are wrong. <g>
