Wily - Thanks for the OUM articles from Intel.

The basic cell looks like a " contact plug" of high resistivity material that sits on top of a row select "word line" and which is contacted on top by a thin film of chalcogenide material which itself is contacted on its upper surface by an upper metal bit line.

Basically, the cell is vertical !!

It reminds me somewhat of Actel's "AntiFuse" programming element - except for the fact that the AntiFuse is a ONE-TIME-ONLY programming element (oxide/dielectric) - and the OUM is reprogrammable.

The write/erase/rewrite data cycling looks exceptionally promising.

If this works out, Intel could set up a nice ROYALTY bearing licensing agreement by licensing the technology to Altera, Xilinx, Actel, etc. for FPGAs and PLDs.

My guess is that Intel will have the patent attorneys working overtime on this technology.

Paul
