the world now "gets" what a Caliphate of Fundamentalist Islam means

BB,
in a paper i wrote years ago titled, "Why Men Fight", i discussed each of the world's religions...here is a clip of what i said about Islam.

ISLAM: If $hit happens, it is the will of Allah.

they teach...you have never lived till you have almost died. for those who have fought for it life has a flavor the protected will never know.. you will only experience and taste this flavor if you fight and survive. survival is not a prerequisite for a warrior, however i do recommend it. be a tiger but accept your fate.

the widely publicized concept of suicidal attacks are reserved for a very few students...most fear Allah and their leaders and are not suicidal.

fear is a fascinating emotion for a warrior to understand. a fighter needs to understand the limitations his own fear creates....and also the limitations fear puts on his opponents. exploiting opponents' fears is a fine art that our SF understands and does very well.

most of the fighters in afghani are farmers. they grew up dependent on other family members and neighbors. they needed to work every day just to eat. they learned to respect each others efforts and contributions. importantly, they all prayed to a common God. they are fighting for something they don't really comprehend...to most of them it is another village squabble. they would prefer to go back to farming but are willing to fight against the oppression of the taliban.
these fighters will not be suicidal. their family's survival depends on their becoming farmers again and they know it.. they are trying to be men...their wives and kids are tired of being oppressed and are supporting their fighting efforts.
these guys win when they have removed the oppression and will want to go home and live in peace on the farm. it will be no problem getting them to stop fighting to pursue loftier goals such as an education for their kids.

this is not true for many of the foreign fighters...they grew up getting fat government oil checks every month. they do not know the pleasure of hard work to make a living. a fine life is their birthright. these kinds are able to be manipulated into something more dangerous. they are easily insulted(btw that is important to know)...they think the world owes them...they have the time to sit around and dream of ways to impose their will on others and the means to pursue that end.
they win when they conquer something. when they convert you to their way. when they completely subjugate you to their will. when they occupy your home...even though it is not up to their normal lifestyle. they have no motivation to go home empty handed as that will be viewed as failure. their families are well off. daily family survival does not require the efforts of these men. their families consider them expendable and are willing to sacrifice them to their God.
these men fight for the goal of personal glory. they can achieve it two ways...by winning and conquering their opponent...or by dying fighting and accepting the warrior's heavenly reward of 72 virgins.

these men will not be easily deterred. they are well-trained, battlefield hardened, full of revenge, and have no where to go making them excellent leadership recruits for the next phase.

they need to be hunted, pursued and wiped out to a man.
