I am, and have been, discussing issues that happened last year. After Microsoft made their announcement, they had no reason to change their mind on the processor unless something was seriously wrong with it, which there wasn't. While AMD might have had a chance to get Microsoft to change their minds later, AMD would have had to offer a significantly lower price, which they weren't going to do. Once the design process on the chipset was well along, Microsoft wasn't going to change their minds for any reason, that would have incurred delays that didn't have anything to do with software, which is a Microsoft trademark.
The term "last minute" refers to the original announcement. 24 hours before the announcement, AMD had the design. At the time of the announcement, they did not. Period. Or, as Paul says, deal with it. |
