Transmeta says expects 4th qtr revenue shortfall

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec 12 (Reuters) - Low-power microchip maker Transmeta Corp. (NasdaqNM:TMTA - news) said on Wednesday its revenues for the current quarter would be lower than expected because of a production shortfall for two new chipsets.

Santa Clara, California-based Transmeta said it now expects to report revenues of $1 million for the quarter ending Dec. 28.

Transmeta Chairman and Chief Executive Murray Goldman said the company fell ``substantially short'' of production goals for its TM5500 and TM8500 chipsets, which are used in devices like laptop computers.

Transmeta said it still making those new chips in small volumes until it completes revisions to its manufacturing process. The company now says it expects to reach full production levels by February.

Shares in Transmeta were up 1.7 percent at $2.75 in afternoon trade on Nasdaq. Their 52-week high is $38 and their 52-week low is $1.17.
