Many preliminary decisions are made without regard to "trivial" little details like this. I'm sure the higher-ups decided "We'll find a way" as they laid out the project plans. This happens all the time, including here at Intel. The key word here is "preliminary."

<You have to have those things determined, else you cannot get a bill of materials and cost estimates. If you don't have that, you don't have a good idea on whether the project is viable or not.>

I'm sure X-Box still would have been viable with Duron. Intel just came along with a more viable solution.

So let me ask you this: What makes you believe X-Box was ever wedded to AMD? A Powerpoint presentation does not a commitment make. (Of course, that would be cold comfort for someone left at the altar, but oh well.) ;-)
