<<I am sure you were making similar arguments when the Atari came on the scene in the late 1970s >>

Anindo in the late 1970s I was finishing up pre-calc in high school!

<<or when the Intel 8080 hit the scene in the 80's or Cisco in the early 90's.>>

FYI, intel almost went out of business several times since going public in the early 70s.

<<There is no way of knowing now what productivity enhancement applications the net will unleash, applications that wil chew up bandwidth and drive up demand for all this gear.>>

Fine for csco, but margin-depleting for the telcos. We've already seen this and it continues this minute. Anindo you can't argue that csco can thrive without healthy customers.

I asked the question here about 18 mos ago- why are all the tech equip co's thriving when all their major customers' margins and stock prices are in the toilet? Nobody could give me a sustantive answer. And now the tech co's are no longer thriving, because common sense came around, and the herd sold out. The 'productivity' argument is bull. Nice sales pitch, but it's bull.

And William's portfolio is not relative to this discussion. You should not try to drag it in.
