Well, later than some that's for sure, but there is a clear warning against setting dates that many have ignored. Theology should come from Scripture not the newspaper. I am confident that Christ will return,(at some point) physically to rule and reign, but I don't know when, so I try to live my life with my future grandchildren in mind, while at the same time keeping an open eye on the city of Jerusalem.
The bible paints a scenario where a charismatic leader will solve an intractable situation concerning peace for Israel and the city of Jerusalem. The signing of this peace treaty will signal the beginning of a seven year tribulation. The first half being marked by peace, and the second half by worldwide cataclysmic destruction, culminating with the return of Christ. Many Christians would disagree with my assessment and say that the events in the book of Revelation were fulfilled in 70 A.D.. I respect that view, but I think it requires an over-spiritualizing of the entirety of scripture.
At any rate, the way things are going in Jerusalem, I will not be surprised if Christ returns in my lifetime, but I would not say He will for sure. |
