I read some other really heavy books about the Middle East but Mr. Friedman's book was much better (imo) than any of those. I felt I actually understood a bit of the puzzling human dynamic, which is so often lost in big "policy" oriented books. I have begun to suspect that people who write big books on policy may be writing them from their university offices and may only rarely visit the place they are writing about, and if they do visit the place they are writing about I'm guessing they make a beeline for the nearest university and find a comfortable office there.

I read another extremely good book which is very apt for this forum. It is called Virtual War: Kosovo and Beyond. It has a lot of application to this "war". I cannot say I agree totally with all the ideas in the book, but I found them very stimulating.
