Of course this plays into the hands of the radical Jewish right. I, for one, thought, and still think, Clinton was on the right track with trying to broker a settlement. He was just the wrong guy, and his was the wrong admin. to pull it off. While Middle East peace cannot be guaranteed with a Palestinian state, continuing bloodshed and no chance of peace IS guaranteed without one, IMHO. Arafat is no choir boy, but he's caught in the x hairs of the Islamic right and Jewish conservatives. Sharon's hard line approach isn't working any better (worse, if you count the bodies) than his predecessor's.
Did anyone else note the arrest in LA yesterday of members of the Jewish Defense League as the last bomb making components were delivered to them? They are accused of planning to blow up a mosque and the office of a congressman (a Republican no less).
Interesting how the story was downplayed. Hmmm, if I was a conspiracy theorist I'd be wondering about the timing of the Bin Laden tape release, since the arrests of Jewish terrorists don't exactly fit well with the closer alignment by the admin. with Jewish hardliners. I only heard about it on the radio and in the scrolling banner on Fox news channel. Terrorism is terrorism is terrorism whether it be from radical Jews, Muslims, or so-called Christians like McVeigh. And I for one am glad the FBI is not focused only on those of Islamic faith. They be folks out there that want to bring the world down as we know it, so (they believe) they can build it up in their own perverted vision of God's will. I heard the pres. of JDL on local talk radio the other night, and he sounded like a Jewish Bin Laden. He made it clear that he would like nothing better than an all out Judeo-Christian crusade against Islamic nations and said, (and this is almost verbatim) Colin Powell and the U. N. are enemies of Israel. I hope we are smart enough to decline the invitation to be Israel's, or anyone else's tool.
Back to the less controversial world of stocks, I've been watching BRCM as another tech balloon ready to burst--again. It has a lot of shorts so it seems to go keep going through squeeze/short cycles, bumping up against 50 or so and dropping into the low 40's. It ought to just about out of hot air though. |
