long-gone, the argument given by Bobby Godsell is that hedging provides a means for self-financing of capital projects rather than having to find loan finance and pay interest for it. This would clearly be the way to go when the gold price is low, and falling, and interest rates are high.

However now, with money being so cheap and speculation of a gold price increase being stronger than ever, hedging could become a disadvantage and we might find AU unwinding some of its hedges.

Anyway, we'll first have to wait and see what they do about their rejected Normandy bid!
