Not true. I am using a 2Gbit FC RAID subsystem in my office that has those new copper HSSDC2 modules and connectors. Itworks fine and is fully blessed by the manufacturer of the subsystem.

Also, when the guy from CPQ (I think it was CPQ) talked about $100/port for 1GigE, he was referring to the Intel part. Said cost was actually around $70.00 today. I assume this is what CPQ pays and not retail.
