And then there are the true Kahanists, who recognize the small size of their core activist group (no more than a few thousand, although Kahane admirers are probably far greater in number) and the impossibility of their forming a legitimate political party.

Although Kahane did serve one term in the Knesset from 1984-88, his Kach party was prohibited from holding political office in 1989 by the Supreme Court after it was ruled a racist organization. Four years ago, at the request of the General Security Services, the court banned both Kach and a successor group, Kahane Hai, outright as terrorist organizations
