I felt the risk-reward was reasonable
Peter: I can't resist sharing another one of my humble opinions with you.
The risk-reward ratio on buying stock options is never reasonable. So, IMHO, if you resist the temptation to buy stock options (calls or puts) and don't ever sell short, your investing performance will look a whole lot better. This opinion comes from over 50-years of obsessive stock market practice.
