"there seems to be total lack of understanding of the typical signal integrity problem."

At least this Mr. Athlon guy, while persistent, doesn't seem to understand the situation.

I dunno, AMD seems to understand the problems. Now either they fail to communicate the solutions to the board manufacturers, or the board companies don't have the proper engineering resources to understand what they are being told.

I mention this because this past weekend I was over at eCo's house troubleshooting my AthlonXP problem with stability. It turned out to be a flakey power supply, but on his system there was a setting for "slew rate" that was a 3 (I think) for a regular Athlon and a 1 (or maybe vice versa) for an Athlon XP in the BIOS setting for his motherboard. Couldn't figure out what kind of slew rate would be important here, but now it occurs to me that the setting could be for changing the impedance of the bus terminators.
