That's certainly an issue, but imo there are a few big concerns on the other side of the table as well.

The extremely successful Eckhard Pfiffer, one of the sharpest and most aggressive CEO's in the computer sector, lost his job at least in part due to the failure of his acquisition strategy. Based on anecdotal evidence, neither Tandem nor DEC mergers have proven accretive, and their cultures have clashed with Compaq's. And amazingly, the management team from what seems to have been the weakest link (DEC) is now in power.

On what basis would you project a successful integration of the Compaq/DEC/Tandem/HP cultures? Seems to me it might just make an awful situation worse.
