Z, <when mobile Northwood is released, where does it go from there?>
If you want my honest opinion, I think there will be some major "challenges" with mobile Northwood. For one, the cooling requirements are indeed huge. Northwood does have thermal throttling which allows OEMs to skim on the cooling, but then performance suffers.
And speaking of performance, I'm not so sure a 1.6 GHz mobile Northwood can beat a 1.2 GHz mobile Tualatin in performance. I sure hope the mobile marketeers did their homework, because if there are performance issues like this, AMD's stupid "QuantiSpeed" campaign can only gain more undeserved credibility.
Other than that, I'm sure mobile Northwood can scale easily. ;-) Keep in mind that there was a time when AMD intro'd a mobile K6-2 that had worse power consumption than the mobile Celeron at the time, but had higher clock speeds. Battery life was shorter, but it was a successful move on AMD's part. It was so successful that Intel drove mobile Celeron speeds up, even beyond mobile Pentium II for a while.
Perhaps Intel kept this in mind when they decided on continuing with mobile Northwood.
