Hi David - I think it was you who linked to me a paper by Jay Cochran at George Mason, "Where Did All The Money Go?" Cochran has moved on to other topics - he's now Research Fellow at Mason's Mercatus Center, just published a paper on the growth of GSEs, government sponsered enterprises, in the US, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Federal Home Loan Bank System:
