J, of course I don't have any real numbers on what % of the participants on SI or MF are into speculative stocks. But just look at the popular threads and that should give you an idea. As you know there are what we call 'promoters' out there in the real world. These are basically people who get paid to promote stocks. My sense is that a good number of them have found their way to MF & SI.

I also see a lot of activity on threads for pink sheet stocks, which is as speculative as you can get. There are a few stocks that have a large following from individuals purely based on great faith for the product or technology. Iomega & Amati come to mind. But even those 2 aren't exactly blue chip issues. But if I were to guess, I would say a lot greater than %15 of SI or MF readers are speculators and day traders. The threads that have the largest number of postings have huge daily volumes... I may be totally wrong, but that's the sense I get just from observing. Just keep an eye on the number of posts here vis a vis volumes for a few days and you'll get a feel for it. When volume dropped below 500K so did the posts...
